چکیده

Inflammatory pseudotumor (IPT)-like follicular dendritic cell (FDC) tumor is a rare disease with distinct clinicopathological features. We report a case of so-called Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)associated IPT-like FDC tumor of the spleen. We found a splenic mass lesion during his annual checkup. After recognizing the growing mass, splenectomy was performed. Histopathological and immunohistological studies revealed extensive proliferation of spindle cells positive for FDC markers. EBV was exclusively detected on these spindle cells by in situ hybridization analysis. Based on these findings, a diagnosis of EBV-associated IPT-like FDC tumor was made. Of note, neither recurrence nor metastasis occurred within 3 years postsplenectomy.

Abdominal ultrasonography revea...

Epstein–Barr virus-associated inflammatory pseudotumor of the spleen: report of two cases and review of the literature

We report two rare examples of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated inflammatory pseudotumor of the spleen. One patient presented with night sweats, abdominal pain, and weight loss and was found to have a splenic mass on CT scan suspected of lymphoma. The splenic mass in second patient was found incidentally at the time of work up for kidney stones. The pathologic examination of these splenectom...

Clinicopathologic characteristics of inflammatory pseudotumor-like follicular dendritic cell sarcoma.

Inflammatory pseudotumor (IPT)-like follicular dendritic cell (FDC) sarcoma is a recently described rare tumor and considered a unique entity, with different histologic appearances and behavior from those of the classical FDC sarcoma. This study analyzed the clinical and pathological findings of two such cases that the authors encountered and 36 previously reported cases identified in the liter...

Follicular Dendritic Cell Sarcoma of the Inflammatory Pseudotumor-like Variant Presenting as a Colonic Polyp

Follicular dendritic cell (FDC) sarcoma is rare and is classified either as conventional type or inflammatory pseudotumor (IPT)-like variant. Extranodal presentation is uncommon and nearly all gastrointestinal FDC tumors are of the conventional type. IPT-like variant tumors occur almost exclusively in the liver and spleen and are consistently associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Here we re...
